What is a puff?

A puff is a single inhale from the device. Puff counts on the box (20,000, 40,000, etc.) are manufacturer estimates of how many inhales the device delivers before the battery dies or the e-liquid runs out — whichever comes first.

Higher puff count doesn't mean stronger

This is the most common misunderstanding: puff count measures device lifespan, not vaping intensity or nicotine strength. A 40,000 puff device isn't "stronger" than a 20,000 puff device — it simply lasts roughly twice as long before you need to replace it.
